Updated Login System
Submitted by johnhummel on Sat, 12/26/2009 - 15:37Just a quick note - you probably noticed that there is now a Captcha system when you want to log in and leave comments - this is to prevent any kind of spammers, which haven't been a problem here.
Yet.
I've been noticing odd comments and logins, so rather than worry about policing the site myself, we now have reCaptcha, which will both let people do good things (by assisting with OCR of classic words efforts) and by verifying that they're an intelligent entity before they can leave comments.
Or, at least an entity that can read. Intelligence is another issue.
Late, some notes, some disappointment
Submitted by johnhummel on Mon, 11/30/2009 - 20:00First, for those who follow this blog/podcast, I know I'm late with yesterday's episode. The plan is once the wife/children are in bed so it's quiet, I'll be recording my thoughts and interview with the wonderful Santeria practitioners I met over the last few months.
Second, I've had a bit of a disappointment. I just learned that I've been turned down by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to interview them for the show. I've been working on that one since September, and I was really hoping that I'd be able to have them for show 52, which would be the penultimate episode.

Submitted by johnhummel on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 19:53Just because I promised it - this is the complete and unedited interview with Mr. and Ms. Hines from the Greensong Grove Podcast.
As I mentioned in the episode, I wasn't able to include the complete interview for time, and I wanted to make sure that the entire interview was available.

When I first drafted my list of religions, Mennonites were on there. Only because I had no clue whatsoever they were about. I remembered seeing some at a vacation resort in Oregon as a kid. Even at the swimming pool, the women were dressed very conservatively, wearing scarfs on their head.
So you want to learn about kosher?
Submitted by johnhummel on Fri, 10/02/2009 - 13:04I happened to catch this video by that Jewish guy explaining what kosher is.
No, I'm serious - that's his name, "That Jewish Guy."

Slight spam issue
Submitted by johnhummel on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 07:58I noticed some jerk put up some spam comments in the comment fields. It hasn't been much of a problem, but I may have to look into a captcha system, or doing some other tweaks to the website to keep the jerks out.
Get The Shivah for Free during Yom Kippur
Submitted by johnhummel on Sun, 09/27/2009 - 15:00OK - I'm not Jewish, but I got this in my inbox and thought it was interesting. Wadjet Eye Games has their game The Shivah available for free until Tuesday.
Ah, free. I love that word.
So what's "The Shivah"? From their words:
