Social Justice explained

Recently there was a big brou-haha of a famous commentator claiming that "social justice" was the same thing as communism and naziism, and that anyone who's church preached "social justice", they should turn and run as quickly as possible.

Which is something someone would say if they were incredibly ignorant of what "social justice" actually meant and wanted to twist the meaning of the term into something to make people afraid of.

Dear Pope, Take your medicine

Say it with me again: it's not the crime, it's the cover up.

Growing up, I learned that as much trouble as I'd get in for doing something bad, I'd get into even worse trouble for lying about it. Breaking a dish might get me scolded, but lying and trying to blame it on my sisters would get me a butt beatdown.

So that's why I look at the Catholic church child abuse/molestation/rape scandal, and keep thinking "Why not just come out with it and get it over with?"

You don't get to call yourself a martyr when someone else does the suffering

Scott Roeder was sentenced to 50 years in jail for the killing of Dr. George Tiller. Mr. Roeder shot Dr. Tiller while Dr. Tiller was coming out of church, and did so because he disagreed with Dr. Tiller's profession as an abortion doctor.

No matter what the reasons Mr. Roeder murdered Dr. Tiller - and I'm sorry, but killing anyone because you think your religious beliefs trump theirs - there was one point of the trial that bothered me more than anything else.

When Warriors Aren't Terrorists

Can someone explain the rules to me? When Nidal Hasan attacked at Ft. Worth, people said it was a "terrorist attack".

When a group of Christians are accused of plotting the death of police officers to trigger the rapture - they're called "warriors."

Is there something I miss?

Churches - Don't Bribe For Visitors

You know, if you're going to get people to show up at your church, there are plenty of ways of doing it. Offer spiritual guidance, community -

Turns out offering free gas for the first 50 people who go to your church only brings in 6 people.

Next time, try the community and spiritual guidance.

If you're going to celebrate ignorance, make sure spelling isn't necessary

People have believed many things over time. But I do find signs like "Learn to read moran" or, in this case, the inability to spell the word "before." Sure, you could have deleted the group 5 seconds after you made it, fix the problem, then repost.

But, faith can move mountains - but it can't seem to fix a misspelled word on Facebook.

If This Church Were Christian

How would the majority of Christian churches look like if they actually followed the teachings of Jesus? I know, sounds like a paradox, but one I'm interested in looking into after checking out this review of the book "If the Church Were Christian, Rediscovering the Values of Jesus.".

After seeing all of the different kinds of Christian denominations, it would be interesting to compare their beliefs and practices against what the proposed progenitor of their church had said.

Hold the Spit

I don't agree with a lot of people. I'd say of the 52 different religious groups I encountered, I might agree with maybe 50% of what any given group said. Considering that we're talking about the perceptions of the nature of reality, or morality, I'd say 50% is a pretty good number.

Lost tribe of Israel found?

This is rather interesting. Using DNA techniques, they've been able to identify a group of people as being descendants of Israelites. They've even kept many of the same practices, such as aversion to pork and practicing circumcision.

It is a Native American group as would be claimed by some people? Nope - a tribe in Africa who's ancestors can now be fully traced to Semitic ancestors.

Very cool.

American Taliban

There is a very firmly established belief in the United States in the concept of "freedom of religion." It could be said to be enshrined into the very DNA of the nation. Inside the Constitution of the United States, it states in clear language that:
